I remember the total eclipse of 1999. Marred only slightly by the fact that it was a very cloudy day, but spectacular and eerie all the same. One of the best places to experience this spectacle was Primrose Hill in London, not far from where I live. My then partner and I both took the day off our respective work and joined a huge crowd of excited spectators there, many of whom had brought champagne picnics and mini bar-b-q's for the occasion. The absolute silence when the darkness surrounded us was eerie, and definitely an unforgettable experience.
