Sir Joseph John Thompson (1856-1940) - English physicist and Nobel Laureate in Physics.
As a result of his experimentation with cathode rays, Thompson discovered the electron for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1906. Two years later in an address to the British Association for the Advancement of Science, Thompson speculated that electro-magnetic fields were carriers of information between people, and hence they provided a physical mechanism for telepathy.
Served as a member of the Governing Council of the SPR for 34 years.
Published 13 books and more than 200 papers in his lifetime.
