Very pleased to see the paving stones being laid towards building bridges between Spiritualists and those in the scientific communities that have a genuine interest in Spiritualist phenomena.

As Psychic News highlighted in June, Professor Chris Roe, Director of the University of Northampton's Centre for Psychology and Social Sciences, issued a call for mediums with at least five years' experience to join an exciting new study.

Now Chris Connelly, another scientist, has extended a similar invitation.
"It was of great satisfaction to read in Psychic News how the laboratory facility within the Arthur Findlay College is being used to advance the understanding of mediumship within both the Spiritualist community and that of academia", said Chris.

"It was through a chance event on a social media platform where I came across a researcher recruiting mediums to take part in his study exploring the evidential nature of mediumship".
Chris asked the researcher about the method proposed to screen genuine mediums from individuals who were either novices or perhaps not mediums at all.
He "was shocked to receive a reply explaining he hadn't considered the need to screen individuals or thought it was necessary ..."

Hopefully, now, with the involvement of Profs Roe and Connelly, all that is about to change for the better.

Chris said that as a scientist himself, he knows "only too well the importance of ensuring that the participants are representative of the population being researched.
Unfortunately, with the situation still being that anyone in the UK can refer to themselves as a medium without the slightest understanding of the science and art of mediumship, there is little that can be done to stop a researcher using anyone who fancies themselves as a medium.
"Sadly, the consequence is often a published paper in some journal accessible around the world by researchers and academics reporting a negative finding and being antagonistic towards supporting Spiritualists' claims of survival".
(my bold above).  I shall be following this venture with the greatest of interest.  thumb
