Charles Robert Richet (1850-1935) French psychologist, novelist, poet, playwright, sociologist and pioneer of aviation.
Noted pathologist, bacteriologist and medical statistician, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1913 for his research work on the serioius life-threatening allergic reaction - anaphylaxis, which he discovered with Paul Portier in 1902.
Member of the ‘Académie des Sciences’ and President of the ‘Society for Psychical Research’ in UK. President of the Institut Métapsychique International’ in Paris. He was also an enthusiast of art and literature and achieved acclamation as a distinguished playwright, novelist and poet and also had great interest in hypnosis and extrasensory perception.
Editor of the scientific journal, ‘Revue Scientifique’ for over two decades and co-editor of ‘Journal de Physiologie et de Pathologie Générale’. Awarded ‘Cross of the Legion of Honour’ in 1926.
Together with Oliver Lodge, Frederic W. H. Myers and Julian Ochorowicz, he investigated the medium Eusapia Palladino in the summer of 1894.
Richet also investigated and studied various mediums such as Eva Carrière, William Eglinton, Pascal Forthuny, Stefan Ossowiecki, Leonora Piper, Raphael Schermann and Linda Gazzera.
