Psychic News - December 2017 Empty A Guardian Angel

    Post by Candlelight.kk Wed 29 Nov 2017 - 20:00

Pages 30 to 32 has a bit of a festive touch, with author and broadcaster John West following in the Dickens' tradition with a spine-chilling collection of Ghost Stories for Christmas.

Here is a sample of just one of those Festive Phantoms experiences - a personal experience related by William Shatner:

    A Guardian Angel
William Shatner is known to millions as Star Trek's Captain Kirk.  He once had a profound experience in the desert that even Mr Spock would have struggled to explain logiclally.

"I was out riding with three friends and after we'd stopped for a drink of water, we saw another bike rider approach us.  In that kind of country it's not advisable to ride alone.  What would happen if you came off your bike?"

The stranger joined them and Shatner looked into his face.  As  he did so, he felt a strange vibration humming in the air, but no one else appeared to notice it.

They carried on with their journey but Shatner fell behind.  His bike then hit something and toppled over.  Shatner fell onto the exhaust pipe and badly burned his leg and face.

"By that time I began calling for help from the other guys but they'd disappeared into the desert.  I struggled up and tried to start my bike but it was finished ......  I was in trouble.  My leg, face, everything, seemed to be giving me pain but I knew I just couldn't stay there, not under that sun."

Shatner struggled on with his bike.  He tried to force start it by rolling the bike down a small hill but the strain of pushing it up there caused him to black out.

"I wasn't unconscioius long and when I came to I could hear that weird humming again.  Strangely enough, I felt totally fit.  My limp had gone, the burn had disappeared - I don't know how.  I started pushing the bike - but that still wasn't going.  It seemed to have gotten a mind of its own ... it wanted to go its way, not mine."

"I couldn't fight it so I just trailed along.  I didn't know where I was heading.  Somehow I got over a hill and you can imagine my relief when I saw a gas station on the road in the distance."

Shatner headed for it and asked the attendant if he could repair the bike.

"He told me there was nothing wrong with it and and he was right, too.  It started.  Then my three friends turned up.  I asked them what had happened to the stranger and they said he'd just vanished shortly after I fell behind.

"I heard that strange humming again and saw the stranger on a far hill.  He was waving at us but I was the only one who could see him.  I didn't care - I waved back my thanks to whoever, or whatever, it was that had saved my life."

I enjoyed that.  Had a read through the other stories in the collection as well.

Interesting too to read about actor Michael Douglas's near-death experience, yet he says he "doesn't believe it was a glimpse of a life to come."  Puts it down to a sort of defence mechanism in the brain.

Having thoroughly enjoyed reading all there is to offer in the free part of PN, I found it a tad frustrating to find so much of it unavailable to non-members.  So, curiosity awakened, I have now signed up for a trial postal subscription. Smile

People will, understandably, seek out a rational explanation for any unusual experience - and this is a good thing.  Maintaining a healthy, open-minded scepticism is essential to our sanity.  Something called 'The Third Man Factor' has been offered as a 'scientifically investigated & apparently proven' explanation for many so-called near-death experiences (I say 'so-called' because a portion of the NDE accounts we hear about are not in fact near-death experiences at all. - as per e.g. the 'Guardian Angel' story told above, nor indeed Michael Douglas's 'drowning' experience referred to above).
The psychological/scientific explanations may well apply in some of these related cases, but there are far too many incidences where the criteria just doesn't fit into any logical/satisfactory compartment.
    ex:  https://www.adventure-journal.com/2017/03/finding-the-third-man-in-the-lab/
The explanations of science might satisfy the mind, but leave the spirit unfulfilled. The most poignant elements of the third man syndrome remained unaddressed. Why did so many people at the breaking point see someone they knew? Why did they disappear the moment rescue was at hand? Why were these helpers almost always benevolent, while those in the lab were not? Why did these real people in distress try to aid their ghostly companion, as when Frank Smythe offered half of his mint cake to a ghost on Everest? Why, as in Shackleton’s party or a group of miners trapped underground, does the third man appear to multiple people at the same time? The “how” could be understood, vaguely, but the why was far from explained.

Yuh can't blame PN for not giving you the whole thing - it's a commercial publication and the taster provides enough to whet your appetite.  A six month subscription should show if it's something you'd like to reade every month.

Don't forget 'Two Worlds' if you're in a buying/reading mood....
