This morning the radio broadcast anything and everything about Michael Jackson, mostly ignoring other news. The same media who crushed him underfoot when he was down are now praising him to exageration.
His whole life seems to have been filled with sadness. Perhaps he has now at last found what he was looking for and never managing to find.
May he rest in peace. Also Farrah Fawcett.

Sky News have put up a medley video (extracts) of Michael Jackson's best work.
Watch it while still available: [Only admins are allowed to see this link]

My special memory of Michael Jackson is a treasured b/w photograph taken of him with his brothers when they came to do Top of the Pops at the BBC. It was my first job as a teenager - in Drama Scripts at the Beeb, and I loved it. Every day was an adventure there, but Wednesdays were special because that was the day that TOTP was recorded live (for airing on Thursday) and every Wednesday myself and two of my friends that I worked with went down to the studio and stood behind the curtain to watch our favourite pop stars record. Then afterwards we would get the chance to chat with some of them in the Green Room - where my friends would get them to sign a fresh page in their busy multi-coloured autograph album.
I had my pride & joy - my b/w Polaroid instant camera, which was the first thing I had ever bought from my salary, putting a little by each month, and driving everyone crazy, fervently snapping everything in sight, and so I had an album of a different sort to fill. Every page packed with memories.

I was a fan of the Jackson Five, I loved their music. It was the kind of music we danced to then and for many years afterwards. I was a fan of Michael Jackson then, and in a way I kind of grew up with him.

Many years later, I took my young son (also a fan) to see Michael perform at Wembley. I remember it was billed as 'his last tour ever' - but of course he did do more after that. The atmosphere at Wembley was electric. The crowd was made up of people from every generation. There's not too many performers can boast that. I remember the excitement that filled the whole place when Kim Wilde finished her support slot and there was a strange hush that descended over the whole place, a weird silent expectance amongst a crowd of thousands of people, not a murmur while we waited in anticipation for what seemed like an age, but nothing was happening.

Then suddenly - up on the screens that were dotted around through the crowd - a foot appeared. Just a foot (but it was the magical, gifted foot of a genius) which remained there for a while just doing nothing ... The crowd went WILD. It was absolutely electrifying. And that was just the beginning of a non-stop fantastic performance by one of the world's most talented, gifted entertainers ever, and one I shall never ever forget.

I miss you Michael Jackson. The world misses you. You have left a big hole in the hearts of many, far and wide. [Only admins are allowed to see this image]

    Rest in Peace.
