Today is the first day of Autumn.

The colours of the different trees are magnificent at this time of year, green, yellow, orange, brown, red... even those with bare branches have their particular spindly charm. We have a soft and colourful carpet of fallen leaves to soften our path.

The wind sings through the park, whispering among the branches, and the leaves rustle to join in the chorus.

Soon we'll be making pumpkin soup and looking forward to the end of year festivities, buying cards and chocolates.

Already we need to cover up more and wrap up warm before venturing out, the cold is gradually settling in for the next six months.

Behind the scenes though, Nature is already preparing for rebirth next Spring.

Nice to have four distinctive seasons to enjoy, each with their own beauty and pleasures.

Such a lovely way of putting things, Stardust. Are you a writer by profession? If not, you should be.  very happy

I hadn't realised it was first day of Autumn today, but now that you have posted this, I will appreciate it more. I will look for the rustling leaves and listen to the whispering wind, and my day will be so much more enjoyable and satisfying.  thanks

I'd trade you my UK seasons for those in the US desert southwest - not everyone likes cold, damp, grey/gray, cloudy, windy weather....

I am one of those weird people who actually enjoys the rain - whatever season it may fall in. I love the unpredictability of the weather here in these parts also - and I think we are quite lucky, privileged even, to be able to enjoy the experiences of the changing seasons.
The desert climate is definitely not for me. I had enough of that when I lived in Libya. What I missed most there was being able to enjoy the twilight hues and the slowly dawning dawns (if you know what I mean  Mr. Green ) of home. Over there, there was no twilight as such - one minute it's daytime and then suddenly it's night, though I did experience some truly magical sunsets over the sea.

Happy Autumn, everyone! Wherever you are, I hope you're enjoying it to the full.

I don't remember reading your last post here before, Candlelight, and I enjoyed it. Conjured up lots of images in my mind.

Here we are in Autumn again and we've lots of foggy mornings. Not good to breathe in. I like to watch when it lifts and see the horizon eerily re-appearing as if conjured up by magic.

Not so many leaves on the ground this year, I think because they started falling much earlier. Instead of having them all at once over a short period so there's a thick blanket of them on the ground, they got swept up before they could mulch and get slippery. Just as well I suppose, less people skidding and falling over.

That said, lots of trees still have a lot of green leaves so maybe we can still expect golden and rusty coatings over the ground.

Start of the soup season where we can get adventurous, experimental and extravagant with all sorts of ingredients to make into soups and stews. We had pumpkin, carrot and apple the other day with various spices added, good one.

During the last week the trees have gradually changed colour and are now different hues of green, gold, rust, orange, yellow, brown, in varying degrees of light/dark, truly beautiful to see.
It's been cold, but with lots of sunshine, ideal to go for walks during the long weekend, wrapped up warm and snug.  very happy

Early this morning, looked out the window and what did we see...?

    SNOW!!!

At one time is was coming down heavily with lovely great big gorgeous snowflakes. Should have taken a photo but didn't think, just stood at the window watching in disbelief.

Didn't last the morning before it turned to rain as the day warmed, but it was wonderful while it lasted.

Never noticed you were so far away before, mac.
It's funny to think of you struggling and sweltering under a hot sun while we're shivering in the cold.

Just the winter months.... Here it's 10 Fahrenheit degrees above a pretty-toasty average right now, perhaps just a little too much for a Brit more accustomed to UK cloud and gloom but I'll soldier on!  yes

Listen to the results of the presidency vote and you might feel a good deal cooler.

Getting back to Autumn, I hate the darkness coming down so early now, but at least in the city there are bright lights everywhere.

I don't know which of the many 'City of Light' variants you live in but here in the desert it's also pretty dark when the sun goes down.  Mind you the days are so intensely bright that the balance is all in our favour/favor.

I've been following events here from both sides of the big pond since now-president elect Donald Trump really became noticeable in November last year.  At the time I found the words "Never say never." apt and I've repeated them on numerous occasions ever since.  What with Brexit - you American guys know what that is? - and now this monumental shift of power in the USA, to say nothing of 'The Great British Bake Off' going to Channel 4, it's been an eventful year.

Maybe this is what the various loony doom-mongers predicting global changes were picking up?

It's done now and the US have chosen their President and must take responsibility for whatever happens next. Let's hope he'll have the necessary back up to do a good job. No way back now, like Brexit - as you say, mac.

Think of light, love, beauty and that's where I am, mac (Parigi). Lots of people envy me and it is indeed a wonderful city.
