2002 I was there. Happy memories.John Lennon Park or Parque John Lennon is a public park, located in the Vedado district in Havana, Cuba.
On one of the benches of the park, nearer the corner of streets 17th and 6th, there is a sculpture of the former Beatles member John Lennon, sculpted by Cuban artist José Villa Soberón, seated on the bench's right half. On a marble tile at the foot of the bench there is an inscription reading: "Dirás que soy un soñador pero no soy el único" John Lennon, which is a Spanish translation of the English lyrics, "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one," from the song "Imagine".
The sculpture of Lennon is currently not wearing his signature round-lens glasses, which have been stolen, or vandalized, several times. However, during the day, an old security guard can be found sitting next to the bench, and he will place glasses on the statue if there is a request.
The statue was unveiled on 8 December 2000, by President Fidel Castro. One year later, Cuban author Ernesto Juan Castellanos wrote a book about the statue, John Lennon en La Habana with a little help from my friends, and about the ban that John Lennon and The Beatles suffered in Cuba during the '1960s and '1970s.

This one deserves bumping because that's interesting, Candlelight. However, the picture of the John Lennon bench in Cuba seems to have disappeared.

Thanks for pointing that out, Stardust ... I have now put John back where he belongs!
I notice that quite a few of the Photobucket images in this thread have also disappeared, just leaving just a 'ghost box' behind.
When I've got a bit of time, will have to do a ghost hunt throughout the forum to banish any of those ghost boxes still haunting the place.

Thanks, Candlelight. I don't think I'd sit next to John though, he looks intimidating.
I did edit some of my old posts which had disappeared photos from Photobucket, but since lots of other posts also had 'ghost' photos I stopped doing it. With all the problems they've had lately I did think the photos might reappear, but some have and others not. For my part I may have deleted them myself from my Photobucket account when having a clearout (after it was pirated and there were lot of photos in my account not put there by me).
