hi all, been reading another post candlelight where you speak of meditation. getting a bit lost though as i'm not sure how best to mediatate. i understand that we need to raise our vibrations and consciousness to the now to connect with spirit.problem is i thought that in meditation we allow our minds to wander but find that we have to keep it focused instead. i don't mean wander to other everyday thoughts but relaxed and open as apposed to focused and restricted. gosh i bet you've got a headache by now this is where i come unstuck. luv lynne

so many people have this problem..it took me donkeys to get it sortof ok,i acknowledge the thought then let it go..but im not a fan of meditation full stop,it bores me.I much prefer a quiet cd and a lie down..i had much sense of things this way not always being silent..as long as music is very quiet though!

Well, I must admit, it's the same for me. I find sitting and going through all the "proper" ways to meditate very restricting, and I don't do it as we should that way. I have a little corner in my garden, it's like a little secret garden really, I call it my "arboury", I like to go and sit there in the peace and quiet (not in this weather of course, hopefully soon get back into the routine) - and just let my mind go blank and wherever it wanders in that time, that's my daily meditation. The cats usually come and join me there too and we all look forward to that special time. Maybe read a little. It's my quiet place, and a place where I do feel very close to spirit - and I feel they know the "routine" too, just as the cats do. I can't wait for the good weather to come in as I feel I really NEED to get back into my routine. Life for me at the moment has been pretty stressed and hectic, and I've sort of let things slip a bit, but I'm feeling about ready to snap out of that now.

tried gordys lar, but was'nt for me. i think i have to find my own way with this . one that is tailor made for me don't ask for much do i. working on it though and will keep you posted.
I have that CD too, Gordon Smith - 'An Introduction to the Spirit World' If that's the one, I think it's more aimed at those seeking to develop their mediumship. CD 2 has 3 guided meditations, and the first one is very good I think in that it explains the initial requirements for meditation - how to concentrate on your breathing techniques, relax the body and and helps you find the quiet place in your mind and aim for (as La-La said) the moment.
I like the meditation number 2, because that is where you can meet up with your "soul family" and "remember" the teachings they gave to you and which you shared with them before entering on your journey here.
Number 3 then guides you on how you can put those teachings into practice, with compassion and empathy.

SO IT IS, LYNNE!! How on earth did that happen?? I tell you, Lynne, we are definitely linked in some mysterious way - (and Gordon Smith always seems to have something to do with it too doesn't he?) Are we part of a soul group or something do you think?
This bit was me talking - not Lynne :-

I think its much more simple as that...
I think Cat pressed the "edit" button on Lynnes post (she can do that on all post when she is an admin) instead of the Quote button...

Next Monday on BBC tv ~ the excellent programme 'Alternative Therapies' with scientist Kathy Sykes - is concentrating on Meditation.
I believe this is the last in the series. Definitely a must watch.

That would be tonight then - no, it was last Monday - did you learn anything interesting? Have I missed it in another thread?
I usually meditate (now that I've learned how from Voldsy) sitting with a blue candle in front of me with crystals around it and sometimes a photo, feet on the ground, hands resting palm upwards on my upper thighs with a crystal in each palm, eyes usually closed.
I'm very pleased to note that with time I'm getting better at these meditations.
I choose the crystals according to my mood but there's usually a moldavite amongst them. I have other candles at times, like the one I light specially for you at the moment, Candlelight. I try to make the Healing Half Hour deadline but it's not always possible, though I do most often manage to at least get started before the time is up.
How are your meditations coming along lynneandjohn ?

hi sammi, i found the more i tried the more difficult it became. to concentrate and focus to order i struggle with. i think some find it easier than others. i am glad your coming along with yours though.
i tend to just spontaneously let my mind wander as suggested by lar and candlelight.
i feel i am making progress slowly and believe i have found my calling card from john. still want to be sure before i post though.luv lynne

Been too busy for quite a while now to sit down and meditate, but I just heard on the radio that meditation acts on a part of the brain that relaxes you and gives you a deep sense of well-being which can sometimes be near to euphoria. The speaker stated that regular meditation can actually lengthen your lifetime, which is logical when you remember than continual stress is said to shorten life.
So I'll have to get the crystals out and start meditating again asap. Who will join me?

How weird is that, Stardust. Only today, I made a promise to myself to start back into my daily meditation.
I have had the candle lit for the Healing Half Hour this evening for the first time in a long while.
When I went to the monthly follow-up of the Survivors Group at Maggies (on Monday), we finished up the session with a 10 minutes "relaxation session", which is basically a guided meditation. Those 10 minutes (seemed much longer) did wonders. I realised then just how much I have missed it and determined to try and set aside even if it's just 10 minutes each day (within the bracket of that half hour) from now on.

Coincidence or something more?
I lit a candle in the evenings following last Friday's massacre in Norway.
If you're starting the regular half hour again then I will too.
Watching the dancing flame can be a help when I meditate too.
