You said that last time, mac (or something similar).  It's not that bad.  The publication has to move with the times.  It's a different readership now from the skimpy newspaper of 'the good ol' days'.  They can't keep repeating the same ol' things over and over - and, deep down, you surely wouldn't want that to happen.  Are you perhaps just being a wee bit sentimental(?)

You're right that before renewing last time I'd all but reached a point of thinking "Why bother any more?"  I renewed after I was offered a discounted annual subscription and decided I'd give it one more try....

I agree PN is not that bad and as I've said before, it can only report what's going on in the spiritual/psychic/Spiritualism scenes.  I don't hold PN or its reporters responsible for my not finding (most times) anything relevant in it.  And I don't think I'm being sentimental in how I recall the old cheapo newspaper publication.  Not even a wee bit as that's hardly mac or even the real person behind that identity.

I realise and have reluctantly acknowledged over the past few years, that a sea-change has taken place in the 'spooks scene'.  And of course I'm 30 years older and, unlike fine wine, few folk improve by aging.  I'm sure I am no exception to that!  I certainly don't look back, though, and think of times past as 'the good ol' days' in the way many old farts often do.  Yes there were good times but there are nowadays too.

I try to live 'in the now' and even though I no longer need what I once needed I like to keep an eye on what others are excited by. OoBEs NDEs and personal communication are catching folk's attention.  Traditional Spiritualist mediumship and Spiritualist philosophy may have had their day.  There is, after all, only so long you can go without constantly repeating what's been heard before.  That's one reason, perhaps, that churches on a Saturday night with a medium offering philosophy and a few spirit contacts for the waiting audience now have less appeal.

I don't know that for sure, of course, but I stopped going to church within a couple of years of starting my search for understanding as even then it all felt so quaint and outmoded.  I accept that it still appeals to some and perhaps many but it ain't like it used to be.

But, then, that's what you can say about life generally....   😁

Time for action

Psychic News' TRUTH campaign for thermal testing of physical  mediums gets major backing from three continents

In a dramatic move designed to verify the genuineness of physical mediumship and, at the same time, rid Spiritualism of charlatans pretending to produce physical phenomena, Psychic News has joined forces with the Spiritualists' National Union (SNU) and the Banyan Retreat to change perceptions and challenge the procedures surrounding such séances.

This informal coalition follows the exposure of Gary Mannion's blatant fraud, revealed by covert infrared filming of his "physical mediumship" at Banyan Retreat, Kent [PN Jully, August and September 2016] earlier this year.

His ability to fool many people poses serious questions about the involvement of Spiritualist churches - some of them SNU members - and independent centres in unwittingly exposing their followers to fraudulent activities.

It's difficult to know if Mannion once had some genuine physical mediumship ability, but as his physical séances for three years or more have followed the same pattern as the "séance" caught on video, this is now being questioned.

Physical mediums have produced some spectacular results over the years, manifesting remarkable phenomena combined with impressive evidence of life after death.
But even the best have been accused of fraud - often unjustifiably, it seems - by sceptics who refuse to believe such things are possible.

The major problem with most accounts of materialisations and other ectoplasmic phenomena is that they usually occur in darkness or in low light conditions, often making eyewitness accounts less than reliable.

Psychic News believes it is now time for Spiritualists around the world to unit in stamping out fraud by utilising new technology before the activities of fake physical mediums like Mannion do long-lasting damage to the Movement.

As a first step, we are campaigning for every physical medium who demonstrates publicly to be tested using the latest, non-invasive thermal technology.  We are also inviting all Spiritualist churches and centres to give their support to this campaign by agreeing to allow only those physical mediums, whose abilities have been verified by thermal imaging technology to demonstrate on their premises.

"
Psychic News launches its TRUTH campaign to end fraud in physical mediumship"

Only about 100 years too late!
Perhaps if they admitted to the part they have played in covering up this exact kind of fraud in the past, as well as promoting these frauds and actually being a large part in it, then perhaps we could take this "truth campaign" seriously.

The sad thing is, if mediums actually got their arses into gear and followed the growth of technology, they could be faking and convincing spiritualist of physical mediumship IN FULL LIGHT!
