Some rare footage of the late medium Gordon Higginson demonstrating his exceptional gift of mediumship at the SNU Centenary celebration meeting at Wembley on 31st March 1990.

A very dear friend of mine, John - who passed in April 2013, had the privilege, many years ago, of receiving some wonderful evidential messages at his first and only ever visit to the SAGB in London where Gordon Higginson happened to be the demonstrating medium. Not long before he passed, he related to me the detail of the messages that had been passed through to him at that demonstration. Absolutely amazing. It was the first and only time that John ever visited a medium, but what passed between Gordon Higginson and himself on that day convinced him one hundred per-cent that physical death was not the end of life.

If only we had today mediums of the calibre of yesterday... But would it make any great difference if there were?

wave Mac, there are some excellent comparable emissaries of mediumship still around today, working quietly in the churches, in home circles and in the field of research. Just because they (through their own choice) are not plastered all over the media, doesn't mean they don't exist - and these are the very ones that do make a difference.

What I was thinking about is that Spiritualism is missing a figurehead, someone who is seen far and wide and who can promote the message and philosophy of Modern Spiritualism, I'm sorry I didn't make that clear - it was the theme of Gordon Higginson I was responding to.

I don't doubt there are good evidential mediums 'out there' who are, and always have been, the workhorses of mediumship. I wish them every continuing success in reaching those who need their help but for Spiritualism to stand a chance of reaching more people its profile needs to be higher and the right figurehead could reinvigorate the movement.

It was only in that respect I said what I did - I'd be the last to take away anything away from mediums who serve quietly behind the scenes.

I think the TV and theatre mediums are the real figureheads of Spiritualism. They are the ones that spread the word and and reach people all over the world.

That's kind of true to an extent, Misty. Doris Stokes was the pioneer really, the first to use the media to bring Mediumship to the masses. Before that, the majority of people didn't really know too much about what it really was to be a Spiritualist, with its practice being restricted mainly to secret clandestine meetings in Victorian back rooms and parlours. Attending a séance was something you didn't talk about - and only an elite group of society actually got to hear about.

Times are very different now. Whether that's for the greater good - or not, is debatable.

I'm not really au fait with platform mediums nowadays but I came into Spiritualism when Doris Collins and Doris Stokes were the main, publicly known mediums along with Stephen O' Brien and probably a few others whose names now escape me. Along with figurehead Gordon Higginson they brought awareness of, and easy access to, mediumship for many thousands of seekers.

Doris Stokes has a fond place in our hearts as she brought our baby son - grown into a small child by then - to my wife in a demonstration in Sheffield. If there are mediums out there now who have the stage presence and following of those I've mentioned above I don't know them but I'd love to learn that there were some still passing on the message of survival directly to their audiences.

Globally I have no idea what's happening other than with the dynamic-duo physical mediums who make the news for the wrong reasons. Here in the USA I'm not aware of any well-known stage mediums but there are TV personalities such as Terry Caputo who is very well known. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who follows the subject of public demonstrations to hear who is working and where.

This is something that was widely covered over the years through the pages of the Spiritlove forum - which, unfortunately and very sadly, has only recently been closed down with all its historic records deleted into oblivion.

I can personally vouch for the autenticity and effectiveness of some of the platform mediums I have come across over the years, many of whom I had written accounts of regarding my own personal experiences having attended their demonstrations (and workshops). Ordinarily, I would have directed you to those specific reports stored on Spiritlove, but that is of course not possible now. sadface

The ones that spring to mind immediately (for me) i.e. - those that I have personally seen demonstrate (and received personal evidential messages from which I have written up about) - are:
      • Gordon Smith
      • Billy Cook
      • Tony Stockwell
      • Geoff Hayward
      • Alan Acton
      • Marion Dampier-Jeans
      • Coral Polge (now deceased, but I still have the psychic drawing, perfect likeness of my maternal grandmother given to me to accompany the message I was receiving at a demonstration at the SAGB, way back in the 70's.)

Those are just a few off the top of my head; there are others - and some of those listed, as well as doing demonstrations of mediumship, are now occupied travelling worldwide holding mediumship development workshops, etc.

Some scratchy details regarding mediums can be found listed here on Light After Life:

(I am currently trying to salvage as much as I possibly can of the lost archives of Spiritlove from places like Wayback Machine, and hope to collate some kind of a memorial collection of those lost archives, as a keepsake for old time's sake.)

I recognise all those names and was aware that they were demonstrating. I guess I'm just out of touch with them if they're demonstrating in the way that those I mentioned earlier used to demonstrate. I know that Australia and Europe provide overseas venues but do you know if they demonstrate in the US and Canada? I suppose I could visit the websites of each individual to take a look!

A quick look, with a muzzy head cold not helping, showed one with a planned 2015 East Coast USA workshop but I couldn't spot anything here involving the others.

It's a great shame when a website disappears along with all its archives. I've seen it happen on several occasions and even if it's possible at all it can take hours of hard work rebuilding things. It shows just how ephemeral electronic communication is - once records get deleted they may be gone for good unless an independent backup is held somewhere.
