Food for thought Then and Now

We understand time as a continuum. Our memories link the moments of the past and our imaginations draw on the patterns of our memories to project the future.

If we leave the movies of the mind behind, time can only be experienced now -- moment by precious moment. Open in awareness to what is happening right now. Appreciate all that is. Immerse yourself in the joy and wonder of every now and life will be a gift.

But that is not necessarily correct. This is an example of Vedic philosophy from Eknath Easwaran. Going by that it assumes we have complete control over everything that happens to us, good or bad!
Any way you look at that it is just not true. If it was that easy then nothing bad would ever happen to you if you followed the teachings in Bhagavad Gita. study
You dont get mugged because you were a bad person one day. It wasnt your fault!
You dont get knocked down by a car because you have done something bad.
You dont get cancer because you have not led a "good" life or because you dont meditate every day.
